The Final Countdown...

13 februari 2019 - Oxford, Verenigd Koninkrijk

Hi Everyone,

Today I've decided to write my final blog in English, to maintain the English spirit. I did a lot of interesting things these last days. For example ice-skating,  going to a court case and going out for dinner ( a lot). I also went to Atik for the first time (that's a nightclub) and it was awesome. This blogpost is different from any other because I'm not focussing on one week but my whole journey. So sit back, relax and enjoy reading my last post...

Time flies when you're having fun. It really does. It feels like I've been here for a few weeks now, but I've not, I've been here for five months! What an adventure. I'm excited to tell you about it.

When I arrived in Oxford last September, I was nervous, I didn't know anyone, it was quite scary. However, after saying goodbye to my mum and Inge, there was the Welcome-party, where I already made some friends. After two weeks I became really close with two of them and also with Mika (one of my roommates). I was really keen on meeting new people and making new friends in that first month. And, I surely did. Every new friend is a new adventure... The start of more memories, right?

The thing about living in residence and sharing your personal space with two other girls was a bit weird in the beginning. But after seeing how we acted like some kind of family, I got it. Once (or maybe multiple times because she is so messy) I found myself telling Mika that she needed to tidy up her mess because it was really bad. I felt like her mum, that wasn't nice. But I loved them, they were great, I've never thought about changing to another room. I was very lucky and we took good care of each other.

There are a few things I'm definitely not going to miss. For instance, I'm very very pleased that I will not have curfew anymore and that I can go out anytime I want without someone telling me: "Be in your bed at 23:00". So mum & dad, don't think about giving me curfew I've had enough, hihi. Also, the food will not be missed as well as the classrooms without proper tables and my bunk bed.

Stuff that I'm surely going to miss are spending time with my friends, laughing & going out for dinner with them, game-nights, school trips, exploring new English cities and going to London for six or more times that easily. I think I'm even going to miss the classes, even though they were boring sometimes, some of the great teachers mad it a bit fun!

It's been a semester full of new experiences. Coming from a town with not a lot happening, it was definitely a change to live away from home, with people from all around the globe. There were a lot of different languages, beliefs and personalities and it's hard not to learn something new each day. I think I am going to leave with new knowledge that left me more open minded than when I arrived.

I'm sure I improved my English and that I have learned a lot of new stuff about this language. But that's not the only thing I've learned. Living abroad definitely made me more independent. I know how to do my own laundry, how to act around people from all over the world, what kind of person I am without my friends and family and even how to communicate with deaf people while using British Sign Language! I also gained an understanding of the fact that I'm an ambivert, someone who exhibits qualities of both introversion and extroversion. In normal English that means that if someone asks whether you prefer to be around people or have alone time, your answer is a simple: "It depends". I like being around people, laughing and talking with my friends and family, but I also don't mind watching Netflix or reading a book in my room ( but not for a very long time, because then I will get bored).

Overall, this whole experience was one big adventure. I explored some beautiful English and Scottish cities, I made some awesome friends and I even improved my English a bit, hihi. Even though I'm ready to go home now, I'm going to miss Oxford very much. I can't stop feeling excited about the fact that I'm living in this city. And now it all ends... Hopefully many new adventures will follow. I'm an adventurer, looking for treasure. I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list. Great Britain, but especially Oxford, you were freaking amazing. You will be missed. Thank you so much.

For my readers, thank you so much for reading my blogs. I don't mind if you just read two or if you read all of my blogs multiple times, the most important thing is the fact that I really enjoyed writing it. So thank you so much for being the people I wrote it for.

See you in Zeeland!

Kisses,

Indya

    Indya,

    Opa Ed

And for as far I can tell, and off course your mother too, you made it a great one!!! I’m fucking proud of you, my Kanjer!! 💪🏼🤘🏼😘 Daddy Danny
